BS5839 part 6 is the code of practice for fire detection and alarm systems in dwellings. An ever increasing number of new buildings and property conversions result in flats and bedsits. The major feature of Twinflex Quantum is the ability to set a pre-alarm in individual rooms, but at the same time instigate full alarm should fire be detected in any communal area. This is possible via a technological breakthrough in conventional systems known as “detector sounder logical link”. Fire zones are designated “dwelling” or “communal” detectors in dwelling zones are enabled with the logical link feature, this allows the control panel to be programmed with a variable time confirmation of 1-8 minutes, at one minute increments. A fire in a dwelling will result in the alarm sounding locally, the panel conducts its checks and will confirm the fire is genuine, if it is all sounders will be activated, if it is not the panel will automatically reset the detector/sounder and revert to its normal state. Detectors sensing fire in communal areas instantly generate a full alarm throughout the building. Twinflex Quantum operating environments Communal Zone Communal area, e.g. hall/stairway; kitchen; TV lounge. When a detector alarm is detected on this type of zone, the control panel enters the fire state and the alarms are activated throughout the installation. Single Dwelling Per Zone Dwelling requiring more than one detector/ sounder, e.g. apartment/flat. When a detector alarm is detected on this type of zone, all detectors/sounders on the zone are activated and then the control panel carries out the configured number of confirmation checks. If the detector alarm is confirmed, the control panel enters the fire state and the alarms are activated throughout the installation; if the detector alarm is rejected, the detector/sounders on the zone are silenced. Multiple Dwellings Per Zone Dwelling requiring a single detector/sounder, e.g. hostel; hall of residence; hotel rooms; bedsits. When a detector alarm is detected on this type of zone, the detectors/sounder that generated the alarm signal is activated and then the control panel carries out the configured number of confirmation checks. If the detector alarm is confirmed, the control panel enters the fire state and the alarms are activated throughout the installation; if the detector alarm is rejected, the detector/sounders on the zone are silenced. |
